Gas startersLog Lighters & Key Valves
Leaky key valves, clogged burner pipes and missing damper clamps fixed, or the starter capped off safely if you don't need it.
- Key valve replacement
- Burner pipe cleaning
- Damper clamps for gas logs
Lots of local fireplaces still have the original gas log lighter and key valve from when the house was built, and many hillside homes are still recovering from the 2024 Mountain Fire. Others have big stone fireplaces that haven't been touched in decades. We work on all of them, from our shop on Constitution Ave, and we pick up the phone at 3 AM just like at 3 PM.

Old key valves can stick, or seep gas when they're supposed to be off. Smell gas near the floor key? Turn it off and call.
Ash and rust plug the holes, so the flame comes out uneven or only at one end.
With gas logs, the damper should be blocked open with a clamp so fumes can't collect in the room.
We can cap the line properly so there's no forgotten gas supply sitting in the firebox.
Our Constitution Ave shop sits just off the 101, so we're quick to the beach towns and the canyon ranches alike. Tap a town.
Drive times are estimates from 508 Constitution Ave. The 101 and harvest-season traffic on Lewis Rd can slow things, so we confirm on the phone.
The November 2024 fire swept through Camarillo Heights, Somis and nearby hills. Homes that survived can still have chimneys that took heat, ash and embers.
Radiant heat can crack crowns and spall brick faces, even when flames never touched the house.
Wind-blown ash and debris settle on smoke shelves and dampers, then smell every time it's humid.
Fast heating can break clay liners inside, which only a camera shows.
We give dated photos and a written report you can hand straight to your adjuster.
Most visits take an hour or two, and you get a clear yes, no or what-it-needs.

Every single hour, including holidays. Smoke coming into the room, a gas smell near the log lighter, or a cap knocked loose in the wind all get a quick response. If you smell gas strongly, leave the house and call SoCalGas or 911 from outside.
It's the valve for a gas log lighter or gas logs. Turning it opens gas to a pipe inside the firebox. If it's stiff, leaks or you never use it, we can repair the valve or cap the line safely.
Yes. Vented gas logs need an open flue, so the damper is normally fixed partly open with a clamp. That stops combustion gases from building up indoors.
It's a good idea before you use it again. Heat and embers can crack crowns and flue tiles that look fine from the ground, and ash in the flue causes lingering smells.
It uses fine stainless mesh to stop sparks leaving your chimney and to help keep wind-blown embers from getting inside it during a wildfire.
Yes. We reset loose stones, repoint with mortar tinted to match, and repair hearths and firebox walls, keeping the original character.
